Moving right along, today we are spending a half a day in
Messina, Italy. This is the third largest city of Sicily and lies on in the
northeast corner of the island, just opposite Villa San Giovanni. Messina was
originally founded by the Greeks in the 8th century BC.
We had a very nice time in this small port city. The
population here is 250,000. We once again took a hop on hop off bus. Some of
the sites included were the theater, Teatro Vittorio Emanuele, a statue to the
Russians that help to rebuild the city in 1910, a fountain to Neptune, Fontana
Nettuno, the Church of the Annunziati de Catalani and the University of
Messina. We ended the afternoon with a couple of beers at an outside café. And,
I bought the beer glass.
